Our expertise extends to depots, operations, maintenance analytics and asset management across all aspects of rail, including transport, technical and sustainability assessments and systems infrastructure.
We are looking for an Engineering Technical Director to provide technical leadership in the EGIS ‘Design Centre’ to a multidisciplinary Engineering team for EGIS Transportation - UK.
As the Engineering Director, you'll be a member of the Egis Senior Leadership Team for Transportation UK and responsible for the operational management of the multidisciplinary Rail and Transport team. Representing Egis at national level, you'll build and maintain client relationships and senior networks in the public and private sectors.
The role will support projects across the UK as well as Ireland and Scandinavia.
You will be based in our office in London.
Job description
You will work closely with existing Egis Transportation Service Line Directors to develop and enhance the engineering team to support current and future business plans. This is focused across heavy rail (Intercity), light rail (Urban) and heavy civils (Structures) service lines and will include both organic and M&A growth.
Deliver a people first approach in the day-to-day management of the engineering team, and establish a dynamic, pragmatic, and innovative culture. This will draw on the experience of the wider Egis global business to synthesise international knowledge and ensure alignment to the UK market.
Providing technical leadership on tenders and projects ranging from £50k to £50m. A key aspect is developing the overall technical capability of the UK business to support the growth ambition of Egis in the UK, Ireland and Nordics.
Responsible for the development of the engineering directorate. This will include senior recruitment, professional reviews, graduate training and mentoring strategy, management of supply chains, and technical innovation and standards briefings.
The role will involve engagement with transport working groups, engineering institutions, heavy and light rail committees/forums, and the wider Egis group. Working with our Service Line Directors to develop and build strong client relationships and professional networks, undertake business development, and lead on tendering opportunities to support the growth of the business and achieve revenue targets.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the Rail and Transport engineering directorate developing staff and provide strategic technical support as part of the UK Transportation leadership team.
• Contribute to operations strategy and short-term plans to grow revenue and margin from its current position of £20m+ revenue p.a.
• Develop and shape our UK technical team to achieve the 5-year growth plan
• Work with the Service Line Directors to understand project and pipeline requirements and ensure suitable resource available
• Accountable for functional recruitment ensuring strategic and cultural fit
• Support and develop working agreements with the Egis international Engineering Design Centres (EDC)
• Manage and motivate operational staff across projects and tenders to deliver annual targets.
• Accountable for resource allocation across projects to maximise utilisation
• Drive great client outcomes and cross-selling within the market.
• Collaborate with the Egis global business to grow our successful portfolio.

Profile

• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a leadership role, with a proven track record of managing teams and achieving business goals.
• Commitment to work in EGIS office, London ideally, 4 days per week.
