Job description

 

The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it’s a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.

We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to work with our partners to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract and are looking for ISU’s to assist in the efficient service delivery of the M35 DBFO network by undertaking a wide range of incident response, hazard clearance and network maintenance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide the initial response and arrange specialist advice at the scene of road related incidents, hazards and collisions acting in Bronze incident command capacity.
  • Attend incidents and work safely in accordance with agreed CPS policies, method statements and risk assessments to facilitate the prompt clear up of hazard/incident.
  • Undertake activities, as instructed, with capabilities to ensure that your area of responsibility is maintained. This will include but not exclusive to:
    • debris and safety patrols/inspections,
    • graffiti removal
    • carriageway repairs,
    • soft estate maintenance (eg grass),
    • litter picking,
    • sign maintenance,
    • cleansing
  • Implement Emergency Traffic Management in line with CPS policies, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Provide accurate and legible written and verbal communication in the form of reports and records as required.
  • Use mobile communication/data devices to accurately input data for record purposes to form reports and business records as required
  • Undertake routine vehicle checks and maintain accurate and up to date driving records
  • in line with legislation in accordance with CPS procedures.
  • Taking due care of any CPS property including but not limited to tablets, vehicles and airwave radios.
  • Raise awareness of issues which may affect the safe operation of the network and report these as observed.
  • Check that Traffic Management signs, equipment and materials are carried on vehicles in line with current ISU checklist and are in working order, restock and record and report defects as appropriate.
  • Participate in Winter Service rota as required

Profile

Essential Qualifications & Skills required:

  • Working on a live motorway or All Purpose Trunk Road (APTR) network
  • UK Driving Licence, minimum category C (LGV Class 2)
  • Driver Qualification Card
  • CSCS Operative Card
  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Highways Maintenance (includes License to Practice {LTP})
  • ROLO Sector Scheme 18
  • NHSS12A/B 1 Day qualification
  • Appropriate manual handling qualification
  • Unit 518 (formerly unit 13) Winter Service Operations and unit 580 (formerly unit 80) Snowplough/ V blade
  • Appropriate lifting qualification
  • Vehicle Marshall
  • 12AB Impact Protection Vehicle Courses (IPV)
  • Disc cutter/abrasive wheel


Desirable Qualifications & Skills required:

  • Experience of working in a similar traffic / transport / highways / recovery role
  • 12AB For Static Temporary Traffic Management on High Speed Roads and
  • All Purpose Trunk Road (APTR) network
  • Safety Defect Awareness Training
  • Plant/small tools training
  • Telehandler


Essential Criteria:

  • Successfully pass the Security check as part of recruitment process
  • Successfully pass the annual driving license check
  • Successfully pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test and further test upon request
  • Successfully pass the Company’s health screening programme
  • Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety briefings and instructions and contribute to Zero Harm
  • Physically able to deploy traffic management (eg placing and lifting cones and signage).


Working arrangements (shift work, need for travel etc)

  • Expected to work the shift pattern (days, nights, weekend and bank holidays) to meet operational requirements
  • Shift pattern is 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off, to include weekends and bank holidays
  • Reasonable level of travel around M25 network and between depots
  • Travel to meetings, training and works sites outside normal operational area
  • Expected to participate in out of hours working to fulfil Winter Maintenance
