Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with preparing fee proposals and proposals for clients.
  • Overseeing and undertaking geotechnical design.
  • Management and supervision of junior engineers and projects. 
  • Supervising and producing a large assortment of technical documents including desk studies, interpretative reports, tender specifications, construction drawings and design reports.
  • Carry out site inspections/supervision to confirm compliance with the work Specification.
  • Actively participate in client and internal meetings, by presenting and defending designs, and proposing alternative options.
  • Ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme.
  • Mentoring graduate and design engineers and geologist on fundamentals of soil mechanics, geotechnical construction techniques etc. 
  • Coordinating design deliverables and design requirements with multidisciplinary design teams within the firm (drainage, structures, highways, water & waste water, bridges, environmental teams).

Profile

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 2.1 Bachelor Degree or Masters in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or similar related subject.
  • Minimum 7+ years experience in geotechnical engineering firm or similar company, preferably in Ireland.
  • Member of Engineers Ireland or other relevant professional body
  • Chartered Geologist or Engineer status or be on track to achieve this within the next 6 to 12 months.
  • Experience of working within a geotechnical consultancy or contractor, preferably in Ireland.
  • A strong working knowledge of Irish and UK ground conditions and ground investigation techniques and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a large team.
  • Ability to undertake and check geotechnical design drawings, calculations and analyses.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in applying current design codes and guidance documents in ground engineering, geotechnical design, soil-structure interaction, earthworks, ground treatment, retaining structures, foundation design and slope design.
  • Relevant experience, knowledge and skills of geotechnical engineering/geology principals and practice including planning and supervising ground investigations, completing geotechnical design, undertaking geotechnical reporting and preparation of contract drawings, specifications, and schedules in compliance with appropriate standards.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of Eurocodes in geotechnical design.

  • Full clean drivers license.

 

Desirable:

  • MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
  • Good knowledge of Department for Infrastructure, Irish Rail and Transport Infrastructure Ireland design and reporting processes, and other statutory agencies.
  • Knowledge of BIM and an understanding of core concepts and principles.
  • Experience with tendering and identifying value engineering solutions is highly advantageous.
