We are looking for a Principal Scientific Consultant to join our team of technical experts in a multi-faceted role including technical research, project management and business development.

Job description

Providing services to clients on an international basis, you’ll deliver high-quality research projects in nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal. Building and maintaining strong client and project team relationships is an important part of this role.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • High-quality report writing and delivering research on geological disposal of radioactive waste.
  • Presenting research and findings to clients and at conferences and facilitating technical workshops/discussions.
  • Business development in your areas of expertise.
  • Project management in accordance with company standards and guidelines (training provided).
  • Line management of a small team of consultants (training provided).
  • Ensuring activities in your business area are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner.

The primary office for this role is in Oakham, however there are opportunities to be based out of other Egis hub offices or more remote working.

Profile

 

Essential requirements:

  • PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering or a BSc along with proven radioactive waste management experience.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality proposals and technical work with excellent attention to detail, within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, using English language.
  • Project and contract management experience.
  • Business development in your areas of expertise.

 

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Nuclear industry experience, and in particular radioactive waste  treatment, disposal, options assessment, nuclear safety and related fields.
  • Modelling, particularly with respect to site characterisation, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and/or contaminant transport in geological media (e.g. GoldSim, COMSOL).
  • Criticality safety assessments; radiological risk assessment; and/or environmental safety case development.
  • Coding skills (e.g. Python, C++).
  • Staff well-being, such as line management or mentoring.
