Newly acquired by Egis, Thomas & Adamson, a UK-based consultancy firm that offers project management, cost management, building surveying, and construction safety services for built assets are looking to expand the their team.

 

We are now looking for a Director of Quantity Surveying to join the team our of our London office, with a key focus on business development and growth of Thomas & Adamson. 

 

 

Job description

As the Director of Quanitity Surevying you will build strong, professional relationships with colleagues, clients, consultants and contractors, based on mutual respect, trust and integrity.

 

As part of your role, you will be responsible for the following:

 

Project work

  • Undertake a wide variety of pre and post contract duties, ensuring at all times that best practice is employed including but not limited to;
    • Cost planning and estimation including life cycle costing, value management and engineering.
    • Preparation of tender and contract documents including compiling bills of quantities.
    • Administer contracts.
    • Post contract cost management. 
  • Administer all project work in line with T&A policies, practices and procedures.
  • Leadership and Project Oversight:
    • Oversee teams providing QS services.
    • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
    • Ensure projects are delivered within agreed scope of service and fee values
  • Client Engagement
    • Maintain regular communication with clients to address their needs and concerns.
    • Representing T&A in the marketplace.
  • At all times acting on behalf of T&A in a polite and professional manner and ensuring that company values are maintained and promoted.
  • Ensuring efficient and timely implementation of all tasks and project requirements and making every effort to assist with maintaining projects on time and on budget.
  • Coordinating and preparing information to support the Client, seeking and listening to the Clients requirements and acting on them accordingly.

 

General duties

  • Oversee/review/approve the work of the team.
  • Reporting as appropriate to the client and other stakeholders in line with the client’s requirement with company standards.
  • Network and support business development objectives.
  • Originate new business from personal efforts including cross selling of additional services to existing clients. 
  • Mentor junior staff, including administration of Personal Development Process
  • Participate in and deliver continuous professional development activities.
  • Fee management including bid / fee proposal preparation and submission, fee forecasting, management of negative profit and aged debt.
  • Actively participate in management of the business as part of the Senior Management Team.
  • Resource management and project allocation / task delegation to team members.

Profile

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications: 

  • Extensive experience in a similar position 
  • Hold a RICS accredited quantity surveying degree.
  • Be MRICS or FRICS accredited.
  • Strong Attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator, with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of an organization. 
  • Able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of bespoke construction IT systems such as CATO, CostX, Microsoft Project.
  • Able to demonstrate a range of strong core QS skills reflected in successful project delivery ideally across a variety of industry sectors. 
  • Adaptable with the ability to demonstrate a degree of flexibility and willingness to work alongside colleagues to meet deadlines.
  • Willing to make a commitment to continual learning and development, in line with RICS requirements.
  • Familiarity with current forms of contract (e.g. SBCC, NEC).
  • Strong negotiation skills and expertise in contract interpretation.
  • Excellent time management and organisational abilities.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Team management / leadership skills.
