Job description

This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of traffic and roadway projects in various States, including active design projects in Indiana, Colorado, and Michigan, as well active roundabout planning and design projects in Canada.

 

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Prepare preliminary engineering assessment for traffic project, including roundabouts and traffic signals.
  • Prepare signing, traffic, and lighting plans.
  • Prepare Maintenance of Traffic Plans.
  • Manage all aspects of projects from conceptual phase to final design.
  • Manage and coordinate work efforts performed.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key clients in the region.
  • Develop and nature relationships in with other consultants by being active in choice professional organizations.
  • Assist in direct marketing efforts, including proposal writing, trade show/conference attendance, etc.
  • Responsibility for all aspects of projects:  cost control, staffing and quality control.
  • Satisfy client requirements.
  • Maintain industry recognition through prominence in state and regional professional associations.
  • Promote and maintain the presence and image of BLN in the marketplace.
  • Work within a team to develop and design roadway projects for state and local clients.  Duties will require proficiency in roadway design as well as the ability to lead and train subordinate staff.
  • Work within a team environment to ensure a high-quality level of work is being produced.  Develop and review plans and computations to ensure quality and accuracy of the design work and construction plans.
  • Efficient design to ensure profitability and that client schedules are being met.  Position is encouraged to develop time saving design processes through innovation which would be utilized by other engineers within the department.

Profile

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Familiarity with the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Microstation OpenRoads or other roadway design software proficiency
  • Experience with Synchro and SIDRA is desired, but not required.
  • Experience with TORUS software is a benefit, but BLN will offer training to those in need and interested.
  • Indiana PE is beneficial, but not required.  This opportunity is available to a recent graduate with 2 to 4 years’ experience with the intent on obtaining professional registration.
  • 2+ years of experience in INDOT traffic and roadway design
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
