Job description

Reporting to the national rail lead, you will implement System Safety Assurance (SSA) activities on current and future railway projects from inception to handover, and provide technical advice and expertise on SSA requirements, in line with Australian and/or international established safety standards and protocols.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing SSA activities for the design and delivery of the projects, including: definition of safety integrity levels, identification and assessment of risks, assurance review of technical submission from designers (and potentially contractors, suppliers, O&M) and facilitation of hazard workshops
  • Conducting system safety analysis using proper tools, techniques and databases (e.g. HAZOP, FTA, QRA, SIL analysis, FMECA, etc.) and developing inputs to support SSA demonstration, or justify achievement of Safety So Far As is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP)
  • Developing and maintaining assurance deliverables: assurance review records (project hazard log, safety cases, safety requirements and system safety management plans etc.) in time and in line with project quality requirements
  • Preparation of systems schemas and plans to provide system definition and direction, and identification of project interfaces to identify and inform requirements, risk and integration issues and priorities
  • Proactive collaboration with other disciplines, provision of SSA guidance and support to other project teams
  • Supporting the assessment of engineering modification requests
  • Supporting ISA in the assessment process.

Profile

  • Bachelor of Engineering (safety or mechanical/electrical), risk management, systems integration or equivalent
  • ▬    Certification through internationally recognized Safety Assurance programs
  • A project management certification is desirable, but not essential.
    A track record of achievement in a similar role, with over 8 years’ experience in an engineering consultancy
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in the preparation and development of Safety Assurance Reports/Safety Cases and related documents or tools
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems, and application of risk management methodology
  • Experience in completion of hazard analysis coupled with managing hazard logs and hazard workshops
  • Demonstrable subject matter and industry/sector knowledge
  • Ability to produce high-quality document deliverables
  • Meticulous attention to detail, combined with the ability to balance this against broader strategic considerations/big-picture thinking and customer service
  • The ability to obtain appropriate Australian working rights/Visa permissions (Company support and assistance will be provided in this regard)
  • Fluency in English is required.
