Job description

As part of the development of our activity, we are looking for a Senior Civil / structural Engineer. You will be a  part of the Site-based Engineering Design Team composed of Civil engineers, BIM Coordinators and Draughtsmen working on the most complex structures of Nuclear Island (NI) in the Hinkley Point C project (in particular, Reactor buildings (HR), Fuel buildings (HK), Safeguard Electrical & Mechanical buildings (HL), etc).

 

 

You will support the Civils Team Lead for the HR, HK or HL in modifying and adapting the design of civil structures received from the Back Office in France, Poland, Romania and Tunisia, and substantiating the adapted design of the reinforced concrete structures or steel structure on the Hinkley Point C project. You will collaborate with and be supported by a group of detailed and design engineers, BIM manager, BIM coordinator, chief draughtsman and draughtsman to produce the response to the changes request.

 

 

You will have an established career, having worked within the industry for several years, in particular radioactive waste management;, planning/ options assessment, disposal; nuclear safety; modelling, - particularly with respect to geological characterisation; groundwater flow; gas transfer and/or contaminant transport in geological media; criticality safety assessment; radiological risk assessment; and/or environmental safety case development.

 

 

Ideally, you will hold a MSc or PhD in quantitative earth sciences,  applied mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering.

 

 

Experience working on nuclear sites is greatly advantageous, however is not essential.

 

Main activities:

  • You will be involved in the wide-ranging activities undertaken by our site-based teams, which will include:
  • Modifying reinforced concrete or steel structure designs compliant with the ETC-C or other relevant codes (Eurocodes) and project methodology;
  • Checking and coordinating the detailing activities with CAD designers or other engineers in preparation of 3D BIM rebar model and/or 2D drawings of reinforced concrete or steels structure;
  • Managing engineering changes in line with company/project procedures and QA process;
  • In charge of the assessment and the response to Field Changes Requests, Field Information Requests or Site Non Conformance coming from the civil works contractors;
  • Liaising with other stakeholders of site engineering team or construction team for clarification on the site request
  • Liaising with Back Office in France, Poland, Romania and Tunisia for clarification on design package or for closing out of design package issues;
  • Technical review and acceptance of contractor deliverables;
  • Site Walkdowns and inspection;
  • Coordinating or checking works done by junior engineers if asked by Team lead or project manager.

 


You may be required to undertake other such duties as the organisation may reasonably require.

Profile

The following experience are essential :

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience as civil structural Engineer 5 years minimum

 


Experience in one or more of the following aspects is desirable:

  • Relevant Experience of Structural Civil Work, Civil Design, RC detailing, steels structures with ETT-C or Eurocodes or other relevant codes ;
  • Previous experience of the Nuclear industry sector or other highly heavy industry sectors.
  • Experience in design of reinforced concrete structure;
  • Experience in detailed design or conceptual design in an office or a civil construction site;
  • Experience on project dealing with material interface;
  • Experience with on-site design support: working with contractors on site to deliver the implementation of engineering solutions;
  • Experience of 3D BIM modelling such as TEKLA, Naviswork will be a plus;
  • Charted status or willingness to achieve chartered status
  • Experience on checking works of junior engineer or CAD designers
  • Responsibility for schedule for engineering tasks/ Making informed decisions balancing design, site, schedule and commercial requirements
