We specialise in radioactive waste management, decommissioning and site end states, and surface/near-surface and geological disposal. In April 2021, Galson Sciences Limited joined the Egis Group. We are looking for a Scientific Consultant to work alongside our team of technical experts in a multi-faceted role including technical research, project management and business development.

Job description

The role:


You’ll be given a unique opportunity to develop all-round experience in the nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal industry. You’ll work in small teams alongside world-class experts and be given ample opportunities to develop expertise and grow into the role early in your career.


You’ll have the opportunity to provide services to clients on an international basis and deliver high-quality research while building and maintaining strong client and project team relationships.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver and support quality technical projects in a timely cost-effective manner, in accordance with regulations and internal procedures.
  • Deliver written work and research on a wide range of industry, regulatory and policy projects in the UK and overseas.
  • Present research and findings to clients in meetings and workshops.
  • Provide technical support to client projects, including data collation, review, modelling and interpretation for a range of projects delivering safety cases for near-surface and geological disposal.
  • Project management in accordance with company standards and guidelines (training provided).


About you:


If you’re a recent post-graduate or someone with several years’ industry experience who’s motivated by a challenging and innovative environment and you love the idea of contributing to the development of a growing, dynamic company, and you meet the following criteria, we’d love to hear from you:


Essential requirements:

  • PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering, or you’ll hold a BSc alongside relevant experience.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work with excellent attention to detail within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, using English language.
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in all areas of MS Office, including Excel, Word and Teams.
  • Coding skills (e.g. Python, C++).


Desirable skills and experience:

  • Modelling, particularly with respect to groundwater flow, gas transfer, and/or contaminant transport in geological media (e.g. GoldSim, COMSOL).
  • Familiarity with criticality safety assessments; radiological risk assessment; and/or environmental safety case development.
  • Radioactive waste management planning/options assessment, disposal, nuclear safety and related fields, potentially with experience at nuclear sites.
  • Project and contract management experience.
