We are looking for a Geoscience Consultant to work alongside our team of technical experts in a multi-faceted role including technical research, project management and business development.

Job description

Galson Sciences Limited are part of the supply chain supporting the UK GDF programme, specifically on projects relating to the geological characterisation of potential sites to the host the geological disposal facility.

 

You’ll be given a unique opportunity to work on these multi-disciplinary geological characterisation projects, as well as develop all-round experience and expertise in the nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal industry. You’ll work in small teams alongside world-class experts and be given ample opportunities to develop expertise and grow into the role early in your career.

 

You’ll have the opportunity to provide services to clients on an international basis and deliver high-quality research while building and maintaining strong client and project team relationships.

 

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Delivery and support on quality technical projects in a timely cost-effective manner, in accordance with regulations and internal procedures.
  • On a daily basis, technical project work may involve the collation, analysis and integration of geological, hydrogeological and/or geotechnical datasets for the purposes of developing sub-surface models or characterisation plans.
  • Delivery written work and research on a wide range of industry, regulatory and policy projects in the UK and overseas.
  • Presentation of research and findings to clients in meetings and workshops.
  • Project management in accordance with company standards and guidelines (training provided).

Profile

About you:


If you’re a recent post-graduate or expert with several years’ experience in the geoenergy industry who’s motivated by a challenging and innovative environment and keen to contribute to the development of a growing, dynamic company, we’d love to hear from you.

 

Essential requirements:

 

  • PhD or MSc in earth sciences and/or a BSc alongside relevant experience in the radioactive waste sector or in other geoenergy sectors (such as oil and gas).
  • Ability to deliver high-quality geological characterisation work with excellent attention to detail within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, using English language.
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in all areas of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Teams.

 

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Modelling, particularly with respect to groundwater flow and/or contaminant transport in geological media (e.g. GoldSim, COMSOL).
  • Radioactive waste management planning/options assessment, disposal, nuclear safety and related fields, potentially with experience at nuclear sites.
  • Familiarity with environmental safety case development.
  • Project and contract management experience.
  • Coding skills (e.g. Python, C++)
