As a Environmental Sustainability Manager you shall provide support and assurance for design and construction project work undertaken by Egis, ensuring that environmental risk and opportunity assessment and management is fully integrated into the Egis service offering. This will include Major Project contracts.
This role may also include working on projects/bids internationally.
Based in Birmingham 3 days per week with hybrid working for remaining 2 days including at Egis UK Head Office in London.
What you will be doing@
- Manage the identification of environmental requirements and deliverables for Egis projects including business case development
- Preparation of technical reports on environmental risks and opportunities associated with Egis projects including recommendations for mitigation/management
- Responsible for environmental sustainability performance reporting to Egis Senior Management and Project Teams/Partners and Client Teams
- Provide specialist advice to Egis Project Teams/Partners and Client Teams in relation to contract environmental requirements and environmental legal requirements
- Provide advice and solutions to Egis Design Teams/Partners and Client Teams on sustainable design and construction practices
- Support Egis Teams in the delivery of work packages to cost and programme
- Identify opportunities for implementing best practice and innovation to achieve cost and programme efficiencies and risk mitigation.
- Manage contracts with environmental sub-consultants and specialists in delivery of specific environmental tasks including defining remits and monitoring of performance
- Lead and coordinate communications with external stakeholders in relation to environmental contract requirements where applicable, including consent granting bodies (including but not limited to the Environment Agency, Natural England and local authorities/environmental health officers)
- Provide a main point of contact in relation to specific Egis projects for interfacing disciplines including design and engineering, construction management, procurement and community engagement
- Undertake environmental assurance in accordance with Egis management processes
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in environmental management on major infrastructure projects covering both design and construction
- Demonstrable experience in assessing environmental effects, developing mitigation proposals and implementing environmental designs to avoid or reduce environmental effects
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing environmental design compliance procedures and reporting
- Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing and improving EMS certified to BS EN ISO 14001
- Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience of statutory environmental requirements
- Demonstrable experience of liaison with external stakeholders including statutory bodies
- Demonstrable experience in managing, leading and influencing within a Project Team including addressing challenging situations
- Demonstrable experience in leading an environmental sustainability working group/ collaboration forums
- Demonstrable application of effective financial management, budgeting, cost control and change control associated with environmental management
Desirables (not essential, but highly advantageous):
- BREEAM or CEEQUAL Projects Assessor Certification
- Technical experience in carbon assessment and management
- Experience in using GIS and document management systems
- Experience of managing an Environmental
- Impact Assessment and the production of an Environmental Statement.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in environment related subject
- Membership of relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment)
- Chartered Environmentalist or equivalent
Skills:
- Interpretation of complex sets of information in a project management setting
- Excellent report writing skills
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage
- key stakeholders and suppliers
- Have an ability to work flexibly, calmly and efficiently whilst responding to multiple and ever-changing project/business priorities
