Computational Programmer - MEP M/F

Contract type

Permanent contract

Business Line specific context

Egis is looking for a Computational Programmer for the MEP team to join its office located in Dubai and work closely to develop Computational Design Strategies. The successful candidate will blend the realms of design and programming to create innovative solutions for a variety of creative large-scale projects within the Architectural, Engineering and Construction industry in the Middle East. The candidate will utilize their expertise in coding and merge design principles in collaboration with MEP and wider discipline engineers/architects to automate processes, generate complex visualizations and develop interactive design experiences. This role requires a strong understanding of both design aesthetics and programming logic.

Job description

  • Develop scripts and algorithms to automate repetitive design tasks using programming languages that are compatible with Rhino, Grasshopper & associated plug-ins. E.g;, Python, JavaSrcript, C-sharp, etc. This includes tasks like batch processing, data manipulation, asset generation and logical analysis.
  • Collaborate with MEP engineers, designers, and wider AEC disciplines to understand basic engineering concepts and design requirements. Communicate effectively to translate design concepts and tasks into functional code/programming solutions.
  • Work closely with engineers and designers to prototype and iterate on design concepts quickly and efficiently. Use scripting and programming tools to test ideas and explore design variations optimally.
  • Lead computational design and parametric tools to drive innovation and efficiency within the MEP and wider organisational team.
  • Sound knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper and Ladybug from an MEP and AEC perspective – targeting front end delivery.
  • Utilise computational design algorithms to create generative art, patterns, and designs. Develop systems that can produce a wide range of visual outputs based on pre-defined design rules and engineering parameters.
  • Design and implement data visualization solutions to present complex datasets in a clear and visually appealing manner. This involves understanding data structures, statistical analysis and visualization techniques.
  • Lead industry competitions, assist in the preparation of presentations for technical client briefings and improving presentation of reports, providing a brand standard with infographics.
  • Early design modelling and analysis looking at parametric optimizations for MEP and wider disciplines with key focus on sustainability and design innovation.
  • Supporting BIM efficiency through Revit and plug-ins such as Rhino inside Revit, MagiCAD, etc.
  • Liaise externally with software providers/developers on product and process efficiency improvement and have a passion for learning, research, growth and development.
  • Providing training and guidance to other MEP and wider discipline engineers on various parametric software.

Profile

  • Bachelors or master’s degree. in Architecture/ Building Services / Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • Member of an internationally recognised professional body on computational design.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the areas mentioned above.
  • Credible experience in working with parametric design tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper and Revit and use of early design building simulation software tools specifically Ladybug tools.
  • Expert knowledge in coding or programming.
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles
  • Portfolio showcasing projects that demonstrate a blend of design and programming skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced dynamic environment.

Specific areas of anticipated technical skills include.

  • Proficient in computational design software such as Rhino/Grasshopper/ Revit / TAS / Design builder / Energy-Plus, etc.
  • Ability to take lead and support role in driving computational design within the organisation.
  • Experienced and confident liaising and collaborating with the wider design team.
  • Strong communication, research and analysis skills.
  • Ability to use IT based calculation and spread sheet software
