Owing to a growing pipeline of project-related works, EGIS Rail is seeking experienced candidates for the position of Senior Project Manager (Railways).

The position requires the project management of railway related works for both light rail and heavy rail projects throughout Ireland.

As Senior Project Manager you will be accountable for ensuring that projects are delivered to programme, budget and achieve the desired quality; assuming a leading role across all technical and commercial workstreams.

As a senior member of the team, you also be expected to participate and contribute to the bidding process for new projects.


Job description



Typically, the role will demand the following contributions:


1.       Developing an appropriate strategy for the development and delivery of the work scope.

2.       Periodic reporting of project performance at management board level (e.g., progress, strategy, cost, risks and programme).

3.       Developing a risk management strategy and undertake periodic risk updates and manage/mitigate all project risks.

4.       Ensuring that projects are delivered safely taking account of all statutory and standard driven requirements.

5.       Working with clients to establish an effective relationship supporting effective delivery, performance measurement and management of change.

6.       Developing and managing the project team (including external suppliers), monitoring adequate resources available to deliver a flexible, competent, skilled and effective workforce at all times.

7.       Developing a robust programme and implement measures to mitigate or control programme slippage.

8.       Identifying priority opportunities within the project and lead promotion and sharing of best practice within the programme organisation.

9.       Monitoring delivery timescales so that there is adequate consideration of the interdependencies between other projects and programme.

10.     Monitoring finances and implementing the necessary control measures to ensure delivery within budget.

11.     Identifying and implementing quality and efficiency improvement initiatives

12.     Supporting, and occasionally leading, the production of project tenders including attendance a tender interview.



·       Experience of the Irish or UK rail industry.

·       Experience of providing Project Management services at different stages of the project lifecycle.

·       Experience of leading and influencing project direction (rather than just managing/administering).

·       Being the focal point for all workstreams (e.g., being the principal facilitator for scheduling, budgeting and risk management decisions).

·       Being chartered, a full member of a professional body (e.g., APM/PMI) or possessing a master’s qualification in management.

·       Being proficient in the management of contracts (typically NEC3/4).
